Paul Moshammer - Artist Statement

As long as I can remember I have had the urge to create.
While over the years I have moved from drawing to painting or from printmaking to sculpture, I am always searching for the right way of expressing myself. Currently I go back and forth between wood sculpture and works on paper that are a combination of drawing and writing.

Gathering and accumulating materials plays an important part in my sculptural process. The specific materials I have been using in my present sculptures include reclaimed wood, hardware and found objects. In my works on paper I combine organic looking shapes- executed in bright watercolors- with black ink writing that juxtaposes the shapes.

In both my sculptural work and my works on paper, faces and figures are a re-occuring theme. Through my art work I filter my experiences, express my sense of humor and explore who
I am; a man between two continents, pushing borders,
finding limits and breaking rules.
