Bio:
My work is about willingly and unwillingly diving into the next phase of our lives and the inevitable sensations of falling that comes with it. Whatever the decision, moving across country, starting a family, quitting a job, breaking up with a partner, etc., each propels us forward without the foresight of knowing what lies ahead. I'm trying to capture the moment after you step off that invisible cliff, armed only with faith in yourself, and jump.
My work is painted on semi-transparent, stacked, acrylic panels. Each layer holds a different image that reinforces the sense of movement that comes with change. My models are dancers, gymnasts and trapeze artists that jump on trampolines for my reference images. By combining traditional oil painting techniques I learned while earning my MFA at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco with a dynamic concept executed on modern materials, I'm hoping to develop a contemporary and completely original presentation of motion and emotional release. |
